Razan al-Najjar was a volunteer medic for the Palestinian Medical Relief Society who was shot and killed by Israeli forces on 1 June 2018 while treating wounded protesters in southern Gaza.

'A UN investigation concluded that Israel may have committed war crimes..., saying that dozens of children, two journalists and three paramedics, including al-Najjar, were killed by Israeli soldiers despite the fact that that they were easily identifiable as such and did not pose any threat to the Israelis' (Oliver Holmes, 2019)

Nirbhaya, meaning fearless one was the name given to Jyoti Singh / 'India's daughter' who was brutally gang raped & tortured before losing her life on 16th Dec 2012 as a result of her injuries. Her death inspired an Indian feminist revolution known as the 'Nirbhaya' movement.

'The movement demanded that sexual violence be seen as an affront to a woman’s autonomy, and as stripping her of her rightful agency, in opposition to the commonly held patriarchal perception of rape as a dishonor to the victim’s family.' (Garima Bakshi, 2017)

The impact of the movement was felt across South Asian countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, where marches and demonstrations against sexual violence were held, and the movement was hailed as the rebirth of the fight for gender equality in South Asia (“Nirbhaya Case: The Incident That Shook the Nation,”, 2017)

Proceeds from the sale of this track will be donated to Sayfty - Empowering Women against violence sayfty.com
